From Makosi to Avril Nyambura

Avril Nyambura is the new kid on the block in Kenya.Having signed with the biggest record company in Kenya, Ogopa Deejays, she is set to release albums and go places she’s never been to. She has been featured in a couple of songs by Kenyan artists as well as some artists from outside Kenya including A.Y in Tanzania and LAM from Sudan.

Born Judith Nyambura Mwangi, she grew up in an urban setting. Avril participated in a variety of school competitions in poetry and drama while still in elementary and high school (Uganda). She was the school MC while in primary school. While in high school In Uganda, took an active role in acting, singing and directing school plays.

On November 11, nude pictures alleged to be those of this upcoming artist hit the net in the early evening. The pictures, first posted on Facebook tagged “Avrils Nipols” show the singer making out with an unknown chic in what looks like a hotel room.

This is seen to be a publicity stunt that has made every Kenyan on twitter and facebook talk about her. We are leaving in a very corrupted world the moral dignity that Africans once had seems to be fading away. This is the contrast of Makosi Musambasi story, when she took advantage of Big Brother show and uses it as an inducement to win his asylum. The tribunal ruled that she could face violent confrontation if she returns to her native Zimbabwe, following her lewd behaviour on Big Brother show.

Makosi comment “Well the arguments were that I was at risk by going back to Zimbabwe, I would be attacked and discriminated against because of the amount of publicity that was put upon my lesbian snog and so forth. There was more to it than just that, and I have four or five files at home that have all this important documentation that I haven't read through myself, but basically I was at risk of going back home and being attacked by people because some would say that I let the Zimbabweans down culturally.” this is just the same with Avril she’s trying to gain popularity through her nude images.

….what has become of this world? Where is our culture?
